What is Creativity?
I recently wrote a paper on my explanation of what I believe creativity is. I tried my best and really put all of my effort into the paper so I could personally explore my head and get some answers!
What is Creativity?
Creativity is a trait, or concept, that covers a rather giant spectrum of areas. Basically anything can be enhanced with creativity. Examples would be music, art, problem solving in just about any form. Creativity is the ability to think outside of the box, in my opinion. Or even the ability to think of things in a different way. Originality and skill combined together make creativity. These are only a few of pretty much an unlimited amount of definitions for creativity.
Creativity can be found in many things. Some examples are music, art, writings, engineering, propaganda, sports, and pretty much everything else. One of my favorites being music. Music is a very fertile place for creativity to bloom and just explode. It's everywhere. From Pink Floyd to Logic, Black Sabbath to Elton John. One of my favorite examples would be the heavy metal band from England. They were one of the first bands ever to play in such a low key, playing power chords, and composing songs that a lot of the parents back in there he early 1970s would frown upon. Obviously, creating a new sound, and essentially giving birth to an entire genre of music, is going to take a hefty amount of creativity. Creativity also can take shape in the form of art. The renaissance is a big one, the time period when people first started to explore art. Some of the greatest art of all time was produced during the renaissance. That was some real creativity, these artists were able to work of little to no inspiration of other artists. Yet, still created some of the best art ever, even today.
Creativity holds a strong grip on the broad sport of skateboarding. In the early days, someone had a skateboard and an open mind. All of the tricks that I attempt, (emphasis on the attempt) were created by someone at some point. I picture these people as someone with some serious skill and creativity, which they most definitely possessed. To be able to literally take a board with wheels on it and actually create tricks, then give them a name, is crazy. Never being taught by anyone else, straight up pioneering and entire sport. These people were so creative. “Yeah I'm just uh, going to spin the board around and flip at the same time, off this ledge, and try not to break both ankles and my wrist.” Like who would try that or even think of making an attempt at something no one even knows is possible? Someone who is creative, in my opinion.
I personally believe that creativity is one of the best possible traits one can have. In my experiences, creativity is something that you can be born with. I also believe that creativity can be acquired, but practice is surely required. Something I strive for. By exercising parts of your brain that are not your strongest. Constantly pushing yourself to learn new things. It is much easier said than done.
